Biology: 

Adults visit flowers, e.g. Carduus and Cirsium and can be collected in deciduous, pine or mixed forests. Females have been observed to be kleptoparasitic on Laphrius (Diptera, Asilidae) with beetle prey (pers. observation). The larvae develop in dead wood.

In Greece specimens have been collected in May-August in Malaise traps as well as Quercus tree wine and Abies tree banana trap; 40-1180 m.

In the Netherlands specimens have been collected June-August in Malaise traps as well as beer traps in oak tree at 4 m height.

Diagnostic description: 

Palpus and legs usually completely black; basoflagellomere round, without angle. Halter usually black, rarely yellow
