Phyllomyza securicornis
Biology:
Specimens can be collected on meadows and on tree foliage. They are attracted to defensive secretion of bugs (Aldrich 1970). P. securicornis has been reared from the nest of Formica rufa ants (Seguy 1935).
Phenology: May-July
In Greece specimens were collected in June in Malaise traps; 60 m.</p><p>In the Netherlands specimens were collected May-July in beer, window and Malaise traps.
On the German bird islands Mellum and Memmert specimens were collected June-August with the peak in June-July in white and yellow pan traps.
Diagnostic description:
4 dc; gena height about 0.3x eye height; male basoflagellomere dark, microtomentum as long as on arista; halter yellow.
Distribution:
Europe, Russia, British Columbia to Quebec, s. to North Carolina.
